About Access America Transport
Access America Transport is a full service transportation company based in Chattanooga, TN. AAT handles all modes of transportation including: truckload (van/flatbed/reefer), less-than-truckload, intermodal and specialized freight. Access America was founded in 2002 by Ted Alling and Barry Large as the logistics division of Key-James Brick. Soon after the initial concept, AAT diversified into other commodities and grew quickly.
Miller Welborn and Allan Davis soon joined Access America Transport. Miller brought his many years of knowledge and expertise in owning and running both private and publicly held trucking companies. Allan opened a transload facility and location in Birmingham, AL which allowed Access America to expand its services and diversify shipping capabilities.
Access America started the Government Services division in 2005. The division began hauling freight for the Department of Defense, but quickly diversified into other government agencies. Access America Transport is Power Track equipped, DOD/ GSA/FEMA approved and GTN compliant.
Access America grew again by opening additional locations in Alabama and Minnesota. Both locations continued to fuel AAT’s strong growth as new markets were opened. Access America also expanded into the less-than-truckload (LTL) and heavy haul. An online LTL system was created to allow customers to go online, compare pricing, and book freight instantly. It is very similar to internet travel sites in its ease of use. The software was integrated to work seamlessly with AAT’s load management system.
Access America added three additional locations in 2007. AAT was also recognized as one of the Fastest Growing Companies in the Southeast, named a Smartway approved carrier, and recognized by the NASTC. Access America continued to expand by upgrading and adding additional technology and supply chain management systems.
Access America was certified by Signature Management as ISO 9001:2000 for its quality management systems. The company was also named to the Hot 100 list of the fastest growing companies in the state of Tennessee and ranked as the 4th Best Employer by BusinessTN. In addition, Access America received a 93 anonymous customer satisfaction score from Dunn & Bradstreet.
Access America Transport was recognized by two national publications for its service to its customers and carriers. The company received the Top 100 3PL recognition from Inbound Logistics, while SupplyChainBrain named Access America to its list of 100 Great Supply Chain Partners. In addition, the company was recognized for the second year in a row as the 4th Best Employer in Tennessee and named to the Hot 100 list of fastest growing companies by BusinessTN. Access America Transport also saw substantial growth in its network of truckload carriers, LTL partners and distribution network.
The company’s rapid growth rate continued to accelerate in 2010. The company was recognized by Inc magazine as one of America’s 500 fastest growing companies. AAT was also recognized once again by both Inbound Logistics and SupplyChainBrain as a Top 100 industry performer. Inbound Logistics called Access America one of its ‘3PL’s to Watch’. In addition, the company racked up awards for Chattanooga Business of the Year, BusinessTN Top 10 employer and the Hot 100 fastest growing companies in Tennessee. The company expanded its corporate headquarters along with three of its seven offices (Chattanooga, Knoxville and Minneapolis).
Access America Transport saw sales double to $190 million in 2011. This additional growth created over 100 new jobs in Alabama, Georgia, Minnesota, Ohio and Tennessee. The company was also recognized again by Inc magazine, Inbound Logistics and SupplyChainBrain for growth and service. 2011 also marked to the expansion of Access America into the Atlanta, GA market as AAT’s eight location. In addition, the Minneapolis and Eufaula offices expanded to accommodate additional personnel.
2012 marked Access America Transport’s 10 year anniversary and by far has been AAT’s busiest year on record. The company has already relocated offices in Birmingham, Chattanooga and Columbus in the first six months of the year to make room for anticipated growth. These offices will be able to accommodate and another 265 employees over the next two years.
AAT expanded again in July of 2012 by adding office locations in Denver, CO and San Antonio, TX. The San Antonio office will serve as Access America’s first office dedicated to handling produce shipping. As of August 1st, Access America Transport has already added over 125 new team members in the first six months alone. The company expects revenues in excess of $400 million for the year. These sales figures are nearly equal to the total lifetime revenue of the company in the previous nine years combined. A strong company culture continues to be the key point of differentiation between AAT and other transportation companies.
