September 25th, 2008

This was the Inaugural AAT Knoxville Semi-annual Putt-putt classic.  The weather was beautiful, the mountains were majestic, and the 14th hole was more challenging than it appeared.  The big decision of choosing red or yellow, after a brief "Golfus Interruptus" due to having to track down a driver for a customer, while Eric snuck in a few practice putts, kicked off the match.  The rigorous strain of fevered putting, lining up shots, and the occasional stop to put Chad's putter in the fountain, or for Eric to stop and make new animal friends, brought John to stop and rest, or just ponder the question, "Why me?".  The heated match produced 2 co-winners Eric and Mike, who tied at +1.  A playoff was unavailable, due to the 18th hole eating everyone's golf ball.  It was a great time!  Hope you enjoy.

Please welcome Marylee Pursley to Access America.  Marylee is from Fort Oglethorpe, GA.  Marylee hasn't told us much about herself yet so I will speculate.  Rumor has it she loves to travel anywhere but is especially fond of Mexico.  She is close with her two sisters and is a new proud aunt.  When asked what her dream job was she cleverly responded... this one.  Everyone make her feel at home.

Summer is here and we are doing our normal thing where we go on massive hiring sprees.  I'm playing catch up a bit here so I hope I don't leave anyone out.  In Chattanooga we have hired Matt Cotten, Danielle Sanders, and Jason Key.

The Specialized Group added Ryan Thornton

Corporate added Robyn Valdez to help with LTL Billing and Lewis Finch to help out with IT

And lastly the Knoxville Office is growing adding their 3rd person.  Eric Backus comes back to Tennessee from Charleston.  Actually, I don't think he has started but I've already got the picture so what the heck.

TIA Conference in Washington, DC

I am happy to report that I feel we are officially ahead of the curve against all of our competitors.  When Access started going to these conferences (TIA is the governing body of all brokers) several years ago we saw many holes in our company.  It was refreshing to come back after this conference and say that I didn't learn anything new.

Access America Honored at Hot 100 Party – Its not secret that Access America is THE premier place to work in Tennessee. Being named to the top 100 is kinda like naming Tiger Woods one of the top 100 golfers in the world. Of course its true, but can we narrow this thing down a bit?

Everyone please Welcome Mike Stangl to the Minneapolis office. Mike is following in the steps from Erik "the kid" Larson from St. Cloud State. Mike and his wife Katie live in Milaca, MN.  He claims to be more partial to the Twins than the Vikings.  I would make some clever comment about the Twins about the only thing I know about them is Kirby Puckett used to play for them.  Mike is the 4th member of the Minneapolis office.  Look out guys, the Yanks are taking over!

Joe Namath guaranteed a victory before Superbowl III.  Ali proclaimed his domination before Rumble in the Jungle.  Drago told the world he would crush the Italian Stallion.  None of these met the hype of the first annual Access America Speed Pitch Challenge.  Front runner Andy Ellington had been anything but humble for weeks about his athletic prowess.  The time for talk was over and the results are in...

In 5th place - Jeremy Shavers

Tied for 4th place - Joseph Mason

Tied for 4th place - Chad Eichelberger

Second Place - Ronald Ramsey

And the winner and still office champion of anything sports related - Andy Ellington (78 MPH)

Here are some other pics of the rest of the evening.

Access America is proud to welcome Gary Shostak to the Chattanooga Office.  Gary has a background in rail and international shipping.  He recently moved to the scenic city from south Florida where he loved to go deep sea fishing.  We don't get a lot of deep sea fishing done in Chattanooga so he spends a lot of free time now on his four wheeler.

After mastering the world of flatbed freight James Armistead has decided to tackle a new endeavor.  Luckily for us he not leaving Access America, just the home office.  James will begin a new presence in the Nashville area selling all modes of transportation but focusing on our new DHL product.  James brings over 5 years of transportation experience to the DHL team.  The only drawback is we need to find a new social chairman for the home office.  He will be missed.

Access America Transport has begun another new chapter of
transportation to add to their expertise of the industry.  AAT is
happy to announce the Less Than Truckload Division (LTL) for all
offices.  We have noticed a need that not all shipments are full
truckload or flatbed and we wanted to save our customers time, trouble
and money in all aspects of shipping nationwide.  Less Than Truckload
will continue the great success that we have already established by
adding on many common carriers to our fleet of carrier partners and
will do it at your finger-tips.  We are offering an on-line tool that
will give you quotes, transit times, book shipments and manage all of
your LTL shipments.  This system will also allow you to keep an
address book of shippers/receivers, as well as allow you to streamline
your future shipments.  Bottom line is that AAT will be able to
virtually move any type of shipment you have and will be the leaders
in the industry at doing so.  Please contact Andy Ellington x 101
about your LTL needs…

Our newest office has just opened in Eufaula, AL.  Check out the article written by Lisa Mathis of the Eufaula Tribune.

“Trucking Company Now Open”

Access America Transport officially opened the doors to a downtown Eufaula office Monday, but this wasn’t the beginning of the business.

Ted Alling and Barry Large began AAT in 2002 as a flat bed trucking company.  Since then the company has expanded to include refrigerated trucks and van freight and now services the southeast United States.  Their website states, “We are a PowerTrack enabled, DOD and GSA approved transportation provider with full truckload, flatbed, step deck, RGN transportation services.”

This year executives decided to expand their transport business to encompass the Wiregrass.

“We wanted to help the whole Wiregrass region, I feel there’s a real need in the area because of the commodities produced there,” explained Ted Alling, AAT president.

              How can they help?

AAT is a “trucking logistics company.”  It specializes in getting freight hauled.

“We work with any size trucking company to help them find loads,” Alling said.  For example, a man that has just dropped a load in Dothan is headed home to Chicago.  He could find a load to haul on his trip home by calling AAT.

Will this change the look of downtown?

The company is renting the office that is “pretty much just a sales office,” Alling said.  There have been no major alterations to this building; nor will there be any trucks and/or trailers present on the property.

The downtown Eufaula office is the third branch to be opened by the Chattanooga, TN, based business.  The other branches are in Birmingham and Minneapolis, MN.  Becky Johnston Ryland is employed as Eufaula branch manager.

“We’re very excited to be here.  We look forward to serving and meeting the needs or shippers and carriers throughout the tri-state area,” Ryland stated.  Amy Clark Little is also on the staff as an account manager.

Ryland and Little can be reached at 334-688-1094 or 866-902-8815.  The office is located above RE/MAX Real Estate at 111 E. Broad Street, and their hours of operation are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
