Green Sheet

At Access America, environmental responsibility is a top priority. As a leader in an industry with a poor historical record of environmental stewardship, Access America is committed to improving that record through far-reaching and innovative programs. We also recognize that the little things also matter a great deal, and we have instituted company-wide office practices that reflect our commitment to reducing Access America’s environmental impact.

 

Some of the office policies and programs we have adopted include:

 

  • Eliminating Styrofoam products from our office supplies
  • Utilizing energy efficient lighting across all locations
  • Instituting recycling bins in all our locations
  • Ordering out lunch one day per week to reduce traffic out of our offices during the day
  • Mandating the shutdown of all unused computers overnight
  • Conducting business almost exclusively in electronic formats to eliminate 95% of office paper use.

 

Some of the operational policies and programs we have adopted include:

 

  • Utilizing private fleet backhaul capacity to reduce empty miles
  • Re-routing of equipment in order to reduce empty miles
  • Instituting an incentive program for vendors to use alternative fuels
  • Performing cost analyses on many projects to determine if rail transit is appropriate
  • Switching traffic from truck to rail when possible

 

A railcar loaded with three 40,000-pound excavators can move from Jacksonville, FL to Vancouver, BC on less than 500 gallons of diesel. By comparison, it would take three trucks to move those machines over the road, and would burn 2400 gallons of diesel.

 

Access America Transport makes every effort to team up with vendors, agencies and industries that also have a strong commitment to the environment. This commitment was recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency when they made us a SmartWay Transport Partner.
